The Music Box programmes: Introduction

'The Music Box' is a thirty minute programme of instrumental music produced exclusively for Hospital Radio stations with tracks taken from CD, vinyl and sometimes cassette tape. I have been recording the programmes since 1999 for BRIDGEfm, my local hospital radio station and they are currently broadcast every night at 11pm with some daytime and evening plays scheduled as well - you can view their schedule by clicking here.

The programmes are simply presented with each track fully identified along additional information where appropriate. The programmes are timed to last for 30 minutes (exact times vary slightly from 30:02 to 30:10) and the final track is always chosen to end rather than fade out. They are ideal for scheduling on computer playout systems or for filling short gaps in live schedules.

Each programme is recorded directly to computer before being converted to the various formats listed below. If your preferred format is not listed then please let me know and I'll check to see if it is possible for me to include it here for you.

'The Music Box' programmes have been supplied to BRIDGEfm Hospital Radio (including the digital Shared Access Channel), Grimsby Hospital Radio, Victoria Infirmary Radio (Glasgow), Radio Royal (Falkirk), Radio Horton (Banbury), Radio Link (Derby), Rugby Hospital Radio, Hospital Radio Basingstoke, Hospital Radio Perth, Radio North Tees (Stockton on Tees), Kendal Hospital Radio, Radio Skerne (Darlington), Sunshine Radio (Weston Super Mare), Hospital Radio Gwendolen (Leicester), Kingston Hospital Radio (Kingston Upon Thames), Radio Halton (Cheshire), Hospital Radio Colchester, L&D Hospital Radio (Luton and Dunstable), Hospital Radio Tunbridge Wells, Auckland Hospital Radio (Bishop Auckland) and Isca Radio (Exeter), Milton Keynes Hospital Radio, Hospital Radio Burnley, Radio Robin (Ilkeston) and HBSA (Ayrshire), Radio Cherwell (Oxford), Radio Eastward (Peterhead) and Kettering Hospital Radio.

Looking for more programmes for your Hospital Radio station?

Fellow BRIDGEfm presenter Ken Anton has produced three series of programmes for Hospital Radio stations. Programmes are only available in MP3 format at 128kbps and on CD-R.

Sunny Side of the Street

A series of 56-minute programmes from the golden age of music. Mainly the 1940s and 50s, but also older and newer too. Featuring the Crooners, the Swooners, the Dance Bands, Big Bands, Jazz and Swing.

The series currently consists of 52 programmes, ranging from 55:12 to 56:00. They are saved in MP3 (128kbps) format on four data CDs or one data DVD along with programme trailers.

Get Out These Old Records (GOTOR)

GOTOR features music from the golden age of British Dance Bands from the 1920s to the mid-1940s. Understandably the quality is variable as some were taken from the original 78s, the rest from LP record.

The series consists of 20 programmes, varying from 28:48 - 29:58 as they were originally recorded on tape. They are saved in MP3 (128kbps) format on one CD along with four programme trailers.

In The Drawing Room (ITDR)

ITDR is a 30-minute programme of music for listening and relaxation, mainly classical chamber music.

The series consists of 25 programmes, ranging from 28:42 to 29:54 (again they were originally on tape). They are saved in MP3 (128kbps) format on one CD along with 17 programme trailers.
